The History of 3D Photography - Newly Updated

Believe it or not, 3D photography has existed for over 150 years.

In 1838 Professor Charles Wheatstone established that humans comprehend depth when the brain combines two slightly distinct images. Each eye, separated by about two and a half inches, sees things with a slightly distinct aspect. This discrepancy, Wheatstone believed, allows us to see the world in three dimensions.

At practically the same time, Mr. Fox Talbot invented the process of putting pictures on paper through the activity of light. To prove his theory, Wheatstone invented an instrument he called the stereoscope to view paired images, known as stereographs. Within fifty years of that moment, stereo photography grew to become one of the most favorite forms of entertainment, becoming as farranging as Tv is today. In the 1890's nearly every home owned a stereoscope.

The popularity of stereo photography declined rapidly after the introduction of the Kodak Brownie camera in 1900.

Within another fifty years however, 3D became an entertainment mania again. The invention of Kodachrome color film along with the introduction of the Realist stereo camera fueled a renewed interest in personal, color 3D photography, while all things from Viewmaster discs, comic books, and a collection of movies were all produced in 3-D while the 1950's.

In the 1960's it was advent of the Kodak Instamatic camera, along with the color Polaroid, which quelled interest in 3D photography.

In recent years 3D has started growing once again. With Imax movies becoming a favorite form of entertainment, media publications such as Sport visible and Tv Guide have used 3D to drive reader interest. Spy Kids 3D is the first favorite anaglyph format movie produced in over twenty years. Over 25 major 3D Movie titles have been produced in the middle of 2005 and 2009 with numerous movie theaters becoming qualified with polarized projectors.

The farranging adoption of personal computers, digital cameras and desktop photo printers has now removed any obstacles to stereo 3D photography in the home or office. With the introduction of Photo3-D, now anything who can control a digital camera can take their own, eye-popping 3D photos.

In the past three years Stereo 3D technologies have touched laptops, monitors, display systems, and loads of new gadgets and capturing devices have been introduced.

In 2008, Mission 3-D introduced 3-DiMedia and won two if of the highest global awards for this new innovation.

Wonders of Digital Photography

Digital photography has truly revolutionized photography for generations of people. Yes, it seems as though every person has a digital camera these days-from five-year-olds with their pink and blue point and shoots to grandmothers snapping pictures of their grandkids on the beach with their fancy Slrs (single lens reflex cameras). Consider the many ways digital cameras have changed the role of photography.

1. Instant gratification. Not since the introduction of the Polaroid have amateur photographers known the kind of instant gratification digital cameras can deliver. And the quality is so much better! With digital cameras today, there is genuinely no waiting-not even for the picture to become visible. A quick note at the Lcd screen that comes approved on every digital camera-just a second after snapping the shot-provides an immediate preview and a opening to see how gorgeous the photo will be. And minutes later, you can have the photos downloaded to your computer to view them full size and printing out on a home photo printer.

2. Second chances. The other thing that instant preview does is help amateur photographers ensure they got the shot they wanted. No more waiting for film to be developed only to search for someone's eyes were closed or a head was turned. With a quick note at the Lcd screen, you can see it for yourself, make any corrections needful by redirecting your subjects, and retake the shot immediately.

3. Lots more pictures! As memory cards come down in price and grow in size, the capacity for more pictures continues to grow. No longer minuscule by 12, 24, or 36 exposure rolls of film, most cards now enable shooters to capture hundreds of images (depending on the size of the files) before needing to "reload."

4. Reduced cost. When film was developed in a lab, photographers got prints of all their shots-even the ones with their thumbs in the frame or the blurry photos where the branch was hardly recognizable. They paid for a roll of film, paid to get the film developed, and paid for the whole of prints according to the whole of exposures that were taken. There was no picking and choosing. Today with digital technology photographers only pay to have prints made from their best shots-and they don't even have to pay for film anymore. For anything who takes a lot of pictures, that's a needful cash savings over a very short duration of time.

5. Learn as you go. With traditional film cameras, you could experiment with separate camera settings and try new techniques, but you still had to wait until the film was developed to see the prints and judge the effect-and then you commonly couldn't even remember what you fiddled with on the camera to get that effect. Today's digital technology lets you take one shot, turn the aperture, exposure, f-stop, or preset camera mode, and then snap other shot, and you can collate the results immediately and even upload them to your computer to view them side-by-side. The digital files also consist of all of your camera settings within them, so you can look at the camera data to see what you did to perform the follow you like the most-now or at any time in the future.

No doubt digital technology will continue to evolve and digital cameras will keep getting enhanced. In up-to-date years, the approved size pictures (in megapixels) most digital cameras can furnish has doubled or tripled. But there is one thing that won't ever change: the follow of digital technology on the field of photography is truly a wonder.
